Frequently Asked Questions

What can I send?

Check out our page devoted to what we can and can't sharpen. Still have questions? Contact us at info@knifeflight.com and we’ll respond right away.

How do I mail my knives to you?

After we receive your order we will send you everything you need to safely ship your knives back to us. When you have them packed up, just slip them in your mailbox and you’re all done.

Do you sharpen every item the same way?

Nope, no way, nada. Just like people, each knife has its own needs. We carefully tend to each piece with regard to its style and manufacturing recommendations. We pay close attention to bevel angle and then finish with whatever stropping or polishing suits the knife best.

How often should I sharpen my knives?

Kitchen knives that receive normal use should be maintained with a honing rod and professionally sharpened once or twice a year. If your knives are stabbing or slipping when used, it’s time to give them some love.

What is the timeline for this process?

After checkout, your kit will be mailed within 24 hours. We ship the package to you via First Class mail (which according to the USPS takes 1-3 days). Once you safely put your knives in the envelope and get it to a mailbox, the label provided will return it to our shop via Priority Mail, which includes tracking and insurance. The average turnaround time for sharpening is 1-2 business days, but don’t worry, our loaner knives will take care of you while yours are gone. Your items will return to you via Priority Mail again and a First Class envelope will be included if you have loaner knives to return.

Is mailing my knives safe?

You bet! Our mailers and sheaths are designed to keep you and the humans that ship them protected. Tracking and insurance comes with the service.

How to use the sheaths you send?

Our sheaths are scored in the middle and have adhesive attached to both sides, that is safe for your blades. Read the directions carefully before removing the adhesive cover and make sure the sharp side is facing in.

Is it worth sharpening my knives even if they aren't inexpensive?

Yes, yes, yes! Our rule is, a good knife doesn’t have to be expensive and an expensive knife is useless if it isn’t sharp. We love all brands equally and, whether or not they are costly, all knives will benefit from professional sharpening.

If the tip of my knife is broken or bent can anything be done?

Mr. Knifey to the rescue! Yes, broken and bent tips can be repaired while losing little to no length. But not to worry, if we think a fix is needed we’ll reach out to you first.

What about a damaged handle?

So sorry, but Mr. Knifey only loves on blades.

I’ve received my knives back and I’m not completely happy...now what?

If you get your items from us and aren’t satisfied please reach out immediately and we will do everything in our power to make it right!
