3 Knives You Need to Have in Your Kitchen To Make Your Life Easier in 2024

3 Knives You Need to Have in Your Kitchen To Make Your Life Easier in 2024

If you want an easier and more complete cooking experience in your kitchen in 2024, having the right knives can be a big part of that. Here are three of the best knives you should consider.

1. A Serrated Knife

Serrated knives are great choices for meat and bread, and they cut tomatoes really well, too. For foods that have different textures on the inside and outside, these are the knives you want to use. Choosing a serrated knife that's longer is a good choice, too, because it can reduce how much sawing you have to do to cut through the item you're preparing. If you choose an offset serrated knife, you'll also reduce the chance of injuring your knuckles on the cutting board.

Here at Knife Flight we love a good serrated knife, but we highly recommend staying away from micro-serrated or "eversharp" knives. In theory they are supposed to retain their sharpness better, but, sadly, they don’t and you can't sharpen them.

2. A Chef's Knife

A chef's knife is, by far, the most important of all the knives in your kitchen. It's durable and versatile, and can cut nearly anything. The blade is wide and solid, and most chef's knives are between six and ten inches in length. Most people use these kinds of knives primarily for chopping, but you can use it for many other cutting, slicing, and dicing tasks, as well. There are French, Japanese, and German style chef's knives, so you can choose the one that's right for your needs.

3. A Paring Knife

Paring knives look like miniature versions of chef's knives, and their blades are generally between two and four inches long. They're good for smaller tasks, where a larger blade would be too much and actually get in your way. Peeling onions, trimming veggies, and even coring tomatoes are tasks that often require a paring knife. A knife like this might be small, but it can be very valuable when you need it for detailed or more delicate tasks.

Overall, a chef's knife will do nearly anything you need from a knife. But to make your kitchen life easier in the new year, you want to add a serrated knife and a paring knife to your collection. Then you can practice your culinary skills with confidence.

We sharpen all types of knives including chef's knives, paring knives, kitchen, and pruning shears. We can work on favorite brands such as Messermeister, Wusthof, Global, Mercer, Shun, Forschner, Henkel, Zwilling, Cutco, Ikea, Chicago Cutlery, Misen and more. Contact us today to get started!
